Let’s face it: a pain in the neck is…a pain in the neck! We’ve all experienced it at some point -- that nagging, pulling, painful feeling in the back of the neck that can range in severity from mildly annoying to downright debilitating.
At the office of Nevada Rehabilitation Centers, we understand how neck conditions can adversely affect your quality of life. Visit us and learn about the wide range of rehabilitation therapies designed to eliminate that pain and restore full range of motion in neck.
Neck pain can be the result of any one of a number of injuries – muscle strains, worn joints, nerve compression, arthritis, traumatic injuries (such as rear-end auto collisions), cervical stenosis (a narrowing of the spinal canal) and certain diseases. Poor posture can also put extra strain on the neck, as a result of activities such as leaning over your computer for too long or hunching over your workbench.
Determining a treatment strategy depends mainly on identifying the location and cause of the irritated nerve root. Although neck pain can be quite debilitating and painful, nonsurgical management can alleviate many symptoms. Physical therapy is a very effective treatment that works to reduce pain and stiffness, improve head and neck range of motion, and strengthen the neck and its supporting musculature. As important, physical therapists will work with each client to develop strategies to prevent pain from recurring.
In some cases, medications NSAIDs and muscle relaxants can be used to reduce the pain or inflammation to allow time for healing to occur. Depending on the cause and severity of the neck problem, other modes of treatment may be necessary, including surgery.
At the office of Nevada Rehabilitation Centers, we’re dedicated to providing the highest quality of skilled physical therapy care. For more information on our office and the many services that we provide, give us a call today.
