If you have been experiencing ongoing back, shoulder, hip or any other body part that contains muscle, there is a way out of the suffering! At the office of Nevada Rehabilitation Centers, our skilled professionals perform a procedure known as myofascial release therapy (MFR), which focuses on releasing muscular shortness and tightness and providing much-needed relief for patients.
Myofascial pain differs from other types of pain because it originates in "trigger points," which are related to stiff, anchored areas within the myofascial tissue. This tightness of the connective tissue restricts motion or pulls the body out of alignment, causing patients to favor and overuse one body part. The pain can also result from excessive pressure on muscles or joints.
The specific releases to different parts of the body vary, but generally include gentle application of pressure or sustained low stretch to the affected area. Progress is gauged by an increase in the patient’s range of motion or function, and (of course) a decrease in pain felt by the patient. The goal is to stretch and loosen the affected areas so that they can move more freely.
By targeting specific areas, myofascial therapy is a safe, gentle hands-on therapy that can help prepare patients for more aggressive forms of strengthening, or provide pain relief for patients with restricted flexibility.
